Simon O’Donnell’s journey from St Kilda Football Club and international cricket to becoming a prominent Channel 9 commentator, managing thoroughbreds, developing property, and owning a vineyard demonstrates his varied business ventures and wide-ranging skills.
A Multi-talented athlete, Simon went on to become a valuable all-rounder in the Australian one-day team, and was a member of the side when it marked its resurgence with a surprise World Cup win in 1987.
After returning from the World Cup victory Simon was diagnosed with cancer. He made a strong recovery and returned to one-day international cricket from 1988-89.
Following his retirement from cricket, Simon hosted Melbourne radio station Sport 927’s morning program with Kevin Bartlett and with Nine Network’s commentary team, became the regular host of The Cricket Show. Having owned and managed race horses through his company, O’Donnell Thoroughbreds International, he is also used as an expert on horseracing on Nine’s racing coverage.
Now in real estate, his comprehensive skill set aligns well with his role as a Sales Executive within the Coast & Country team at Marshall White.
With such a diverse range of talents, and widely regarded for his easy going nature, Simon is an excellent speaker or master of ceremonies who is ideal for conferences and after dinner engagements.
