Shaun Micallef
Multi-Award Winning Actor, Writer & Satirist
Shaun Micallef is one of Australia’s most original and versatile comedians. He is a multi-award winning actor, writer and television presenter. Shaun was born and raised in Adelaide and studied law at the University of Adelaide. He practiced for ten years as a solicitor in insurance law before making the momentous move to Melbourne to become a full time comedian.
Shaun began his TV career as a writer for ABC’s The Big Gig and then gained recognition as a writer and performer in Full Frontal. This led to his special, Shaun Micallef’s World Around Him and three seasons of the two time Logie Award winning ABC series The Micallef Program. Welcher and Welcher followed as did a talk show for Channel 9, Micallef Tonight; and a news satire on SBS, Newstopia.
In 2009, Shaun joined the Ten Network and hosted the extremely popular, Talkin’ Bout Your Generation which aired for four seasons and earned him a Silver Logie for Most Popular Presenter. Shaun is probably best known for the Logie and AACTA Award winning satirical news show Mad as Hell, which finished up after an astonishing fifteen series. Other television work includes Mr and Mrs Murder, a crime comedy which he co-created and played the lead; and two seasons of The Ex PM, which he also co-created and played the lead. As a guest artist he appeared in It’s A Date, Danger 5, Offspring, LAID (1&2),Thank God You’re Here and Seachange. He also hosted the 2001 Logies and the game show Shaun Micallef’s Brain Eisteddfod.
Film appearances include Sucker, Arrowhead, The Cup, The King, Aquamarine, Through My Eyes, The Extra, Bad Eggs and The Honourable Wally Norman.
Shaun also has had the opportunity of pursuing his interest in documentary film. He made Stairway to Heaven in which he explored several religions and the very personal Shaun Micallef’s On the Sauce.
Theatre work includes The Odd Couple for MTC, QI Live with Stephen Fry, presenting The Best Of John Williams for the Sydney Symphony, a national tour of Good Evening, the Australian premiere of Boeing Boeing, a revival of Neil Simon’s The Odd Couple for the MTC and various comedy revues.
Shaun was also the first host establishing Vega radio’s breakfast program on weekdays.
He has also published several books.
