Peter Stefanovic

Peter Stefanovic is a Walkley award winning journalist and presenter who has travelled the world, covering major news events in Australia, Europe, Africa, America and the Middle East for the Nine Network. He has been seen on Nine News, the Today Show, 60 Minutes and A Current Affair.

Having covered many of the major international conflicts and events in recent times, Peter is an outstanding keynote speaker with incomparable stories guaranteed to keep audiences engaged.

Peter was the Nine Network’s foreign correspondent based in its London and Los Angeles bureaus from 2008 until 2015. He returned to Australia to continue his career with the network.

During his international posting, Peter reported from Gaza City during its 50-day war with Israel in 2014. Under threat from heavy artillery and rocket attacks, he covered Israel’s military invasion and received a prestigious Walkley Award nomination for excellence in Journalism. With a passion for conflict reporting, that year Peter made several trips to Iraq where he covered the stunning and deadly advances of the so-called Islamic State. He was based in Baghdad and the northern city of Erbil, as militants cut swathes through Iraq and Syria. Also that year, he spent weeks in eastern Europe as civil war raged between Ukraine and Russia.

Peter was a constant presence in North Africa during 2011’s historic Arab Spring, which saw revolutions in Egypt, Libya, and Tunisia. He reported from Cairo’s Tahrir Square the night Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak was toppled as leader. He was also among the first western reporters to enter Libya for its uprising, which turned into a civil war and resulted in the death of dictator Colonel Moammar Gaddafi. Peter has been on the ground for many of the world’s most recent tragedies and historic moments. The 2015 earthquake in Nepal, the London riots, the massacre in Norway, the Eurozone crisis, and many European elections.

Showing versatility, he’s also covered three Olympic Games, and the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Peter Stefanovic was posted to London after three years as a United States correspondent. There he covered the 2008 presidential election and first inauguration of Barack Obama. During this posting, he travelled all over the Americas from Alaska to Rio de Janeiro to Haiti where he reported on the earthquake that killed more than 300 thousand people. He covered the death of Michael Jackson, multiple Academy Award and Golden Globe ceremonies.

In August 2016 Peter released an autobiography of all his experiences as a foreign correspondent titled Hack in a flak jacket. In 2016 he was the host of Weekend Today while continuing his work on Nine News and 60 Minutes. In 2017 he joined the 60 Minutes team on a permanent basis as a reporter.
