Mark Waugh AM

Australian Cricket Commentator and Former International Cricketer

Sir Donald Bradman described him as “The most elegant and graceful cricketer of the modern era.” Mark Waugh represented Australia in Test matches from early 1991 to late 2002, after previously making his One Day International (ODI) debut in 1988. Mark was a part of the Australian team that won the 1999 Cricket World Cup.

His 14 years at the elite level of Australian cricket were studded with records and he will be remembered as one of the finest cricketers this country has ever produced.

Since his one-day international debut against Pakistan in 1988-89, Mark enjoyed outstanding success, including the 1999 World Cup and the record-breaking streak of 16 consecutive Test
wins.

Mark has been an inspiration not only to his teammates but also to a host of young players because of the way he has played the game – hard but fair and in a positive way, always keen to entertain the fans.

He retired from First Class cricket in March 2004 having played 19 years for NSW and his record is an outstanding one.
