Madeleine Morris

International Journalist & MC

Madeleine Morris is an award-winning international journalist and communications consultant, best known to Australian audiences as the finance presenter and newsreader on ABC’s flagship breakfast show, News Breakfast. There, she was an audience favourite thanks to her ability to communicate complex financial news in a warm and engaging manner, a skill she loves to bring to her moderation and MCing roles.

More about Madeleine Morris:

Madeleine enjoyed a long career in Australian and international media including as presenter of ABC/RMIT FackCheck, senior reporter for 7.30, AM and host on ABC radio.

Prior to News Breakfast, Madeleine was a senior reporter for 7.30, where she reported on politics, finance and social affairs, and conducted complex investigations. Before the ABC Madeleine spent 11 years at the BBC as a reporter and presenter, reporting from more than 20 countries including the US where she was Washington Correspondent.

As Development Reporter for the BBC she had a speciality in the economics, health and social issues affecting the developing world, and was awarded a bursary for a project to study HIV messaging in Uganda and Zambia. She won a prestigious One World Media Award for a documentary on India’s beleaguered micro-finance industry.

Madeleine deployed her passion for evidence-based reporting and women’s mental and physical health to write parenting guide Guilt-free bottle-feeding: why your formula-fed baby can be happy, healthy and smart. Her journalism has been published in The Times, Guardian, Sydney Morning Herald and The Age.

She has interviewed Prime Ministers, Presidents, CEOs and superstars including Robbie Williams, but her favourite interviews are always with ordinary people who inevitably have far from ordinary stories. Her warmth, humour and highly attuned communication skills mean she draws the best out of panelists, and can read a room and adjust style and pace to suit the audience.

In late 2023 Madeleine decided to ditch the 3am alarm and left News Breakfast. She has since been consulting to various clients in the financial services and enviro-tech industries on strategy and communications strategy.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Queensland, and post-graduate qualification from the London School of Economics and UTS.

She loves to MC and moderate events of all shapes and sizes, drawing on her broad knowledge and reporting experience to deliver lively and engaged sessions that audiences will remember.
