At just 19 Kav Temperley started the band Eskimo Joe, and after winning a band competition embarked on a now 22-year career as the frontman, bassist and songwriter of one of Australia’s most loved bands. The 4 times platinum band went on to receive 8 ARIA awards, 15 WAMI (West Australian Music Industry) Awards, 2 APRA awards and 3 International Songwriting Competition (ISC) Awards.
Their single “Black Fingernails Red Wine” lasting in the TOP 50 for 62 weeks, and having 11 songs featured in Triple J’s Hottest 100.
Kav has a passion for performing, and has performed nationally, and internationally in Asia, America and Europe. Highlights being the 2021 AFL grand final held in Perth, Sound Relief, Live Earth, Make Poverty History, ARIA Awards, Big Day Out, Homebake, Splendour in the Grass, Triple J’s One Night Stand, Sundance Film Festival in Utah US and in the Australian showcase G’DAY USA in New York.
Kav is also no stranger to the screen, with guest appearances on Spicks and Specs, Rockwiz, Good Morning Australia, The Project, Sunrise, The Sound, Rage, TV series ‘Tales of our Cities” as well as a guest resident DJ for Double J.
In 2018 Kav saw the re-invention of his bands music in orchestral form, performing to sold out shows with the WA Symphony Orchestra (WASO), Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra (TSO) and playing with the world esteemed Sydney Symphony Orchestra (SSO) at the Opera house.
Throughout his career as a musician Kav has written and recorded 7 albums for Eskimo Joe, a record for Basement Birds, and is about to release his second solo record “Machines of love & Grace”.
Kav has participated and collaborated on many Triple J ‘Like a Versions’, as well as written original content with the likes of Bernard Fanning and Jae Leffer in the Vast project.
In the last decade Kav has also focused on his role in the industry as an industry expert and mentor in creativity and songwriting. He has developed the Create, Explore, Produce model, a songwriting technique for musicians or people wanting to come top with an idea and successfully taught this to emerging musicians and as a group workshop in corporations throughout Australia. Kav is highly regarded in his field and has been invited been a judge and patron on numerous professional and emerging songwriting competitions including, Vander & Young, Fairbridge, AMP awards to name a few.
Participating in peer songwriting camps such as 50 songs in 5 days, song hubs and curating a Song Hub in Perth, Kav has refined his songwriting craft.
Kav is also focused on creating new projects and in 2016 Kav created a production ‘Songs From The Suburbs, Songs From The Sea’ for Fremantle Festival. He went on to compose and produce “The Shower Song” for water awareness in 2017 and has continued to work with musicians as a producer.
Kav and his wife Beth Temperley are in their seventh year of running creative workshops for musicians and corporations around the country. They have recently co- founded the Temperley Collective, a production house where they create, produce and educate in creative content and have released their podcast HatJam, charting at number 2 in the first two weeks of release.
Kav is passionate about the arts and inspiring others. He is an APRA, WAM and OceanFloor Music ambassador and is a respected creative in his field. Kav has lectured at Perth Writers festival, a return guest at the Strings Attached Guitar festival performing and running workshops in the craft of songwriting and creativity. Jab has also carefully curated a workshop for those working in non-creative industries.
