Olympic Australian Swimming Coach

Dean Boxall is best known for his role as the coach of Ariarne Titmus and Mollie O’Callaghan. He gained international attention during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics for his enthusiastic and passionate celebration after Titmus won gold in the 400m freestyle, defeating the greatest of all time, Katie Ledecky.

Dean’s coaching style is often highlighted for its intensity and emotional investment in his swimmers’ performances. He works with a group of elite swimmers, focusing on developing their skills to compete at the highest levels of international swimming. His approach to coaching and his visible commitment to his athletes’ success and has been recognised as World Swimming’s Coach of the Year in 2021 and 2022.

Dean’s revered squad includes world record holders, Olympic and Commonwealth Games medalists, world champions and multiple national team members. He is the coach of Australian swimmers Ariarne Titmus, Elijah Winnington, Mitch Larkin, Meg Harris, Mollie O’Callaghan, Shayna Jack, Abbey Harkin and Clyde Lewis.

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games has seen Ariarne Titmus win gold in the 400m freestyle final— her third gold for Australia. Australia’s golden girls, Mollie O’Callaghan and Ariarne Titmus, took home the gold and silver medals in the women’s 200m freestyle final.

The all-conquering women’s 4x100m freestyle relay team of Mollie O’Callaghan, Emma McKeon, Shayna Jack and Meg Harris winning a thrilling final to claim a remarkable fourth straight title in Paris 2024 also.

Dean is an elite coach in his field, training swimmers who succeed at the highest level. He has coached and prepared athletes who have won Olympic Gold, Commonwealth Gold, World Championship Gold and also achieve World Records. He is also currently the Australian Women’s Team Coach for international meets.

Dean balances his coaching with complete oversight of the St Peters Lutheran College Girls and Boys Swim Teams for the QGSSSA and AIC Swimming Championships.

Dubbed as this generation’s Laurie Lawrence, Dean shares the insights to his coaching success and entertaining Olympic stories in either a Q&A or keynote capacity.
