Charles Firth

Writer, Comedian, Speaker and MC
Writer, director and comedian Charles Firth is the creator of the multi Logie award winning and iconic comedy team, The Chaser and author of the bestselling book, American Hoax.
His career spans television, film and writing and his comedic, explorative and investigative skills have been the force behind some of Australia’s most popular and critically acclaimed programs.
Charles produced the 2009 Logie-nominated special comedy documentary about the US elections for SBS TV called Mr Firth Goes to Washington (2008). Before that, he was the US correspondent for AFI nominated The Chaser’s War on Everything (2006-7) and was a presenter and writer on AFI nominated CNNNN (2002-3), The Chaser Decides (2004) and The
Election Chaser (2001). With the team, he has also written five Chaser Annuals (Text Publishing) and produced 89 editions of their satirical newspaper, The Chaser.
Charles has co-written (with Andrew Hansen) an international award winning Short Film Garbage Man (2005), which won a Tropfest Award and also an award at the Ohne Kohle Film Festival in Vienna. He is a regular writer for The Monthly, is a columnist for GQ Australia and regularly appears on ABC Local Radio.
His first novel, Funny Like was published by in 2011, and has several television projects in development.
He created and stars in the comedy series Optics which premiered on the ABC in 2025.
Charles is a highly accomplished MC and keynote speaker. He has hosted events delivered keynotes. His writing skills have been lent to the ASTRA Awards night, and he has facilitated numerous workshops at writer’s festivals around the country.
