Bursting onto the tennis scene in 1985 when he became the youngest man to win Wimbledon at 17. Boris Becker was one of the most popular players in the game, winning six Grand Slam titles and inspiring Germany’s first ever Davis Cup victory.
Boris’s rocket-like serves, his aggressive agility behind the net and his superb serve-and-volley game made him a lethal player on grass. He went on to win twice more at Wimbledon, in 1986 and 1989.
In his impressive career, as a six-time Grand Slam singles winner he is also an Olympic doubles champion, winning a total of 49 titles. He won another six Grand Slam titles during his time as Novak Djokovic’s coach. He also won two Australian Open titles (1991 and 1996) and the US Open in 1989, but Wimbledon was easily his favourite Grand Slam and he became something of an adopted son to the Wimbledon crowds. In addition to winning three times, he also appeared in four further finals.
His charismatic charisma has made Boris a world-renowned personality. Since his retirement as a professional tennis player, he has been a tennis commentator, and has written his own sports column for newspapers. From 2013 to 2016, he was the coach of Novak Djokovic – one of the best tennis players in the world.
He is vice chairman and academy member at the Laureus Sports for Good Foundation, is an ambassador at the German AIDS Foundation and is a member of the board of the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
Boris is known all over the world. Not only because he reached No. 1, but also because he won six Grand Slams and played at the highest level until his retirement in 1999. Boris’ story is described in his latest autobiography “Boris Becker’s Wimbledon”, published by Blink Publishing in 2015.
