Axle Whitehead is a musician, presenter and actor. He plays rocker Liam Murphy on the Seven Network’s Home and Away and hosts World’s Strictest Parents. For three years Axle was Channel TEN’s first host of its music program Video Hits.
Axle Whitehead has hosted events including openings for Myer and Fashion Week, Make Poverty History and the public primary school’s cultural competition, Wakakirri. He was the face of ‘Marcs’ clothing for a six month national campaign on everything from point of sale to bill boards.
On 22 April 2009, Axle was announced Cleo Bachelor Of The Year, beating competition from sportsmen, actors and other personalities.
About Axle Whitehead:
Axle attended the VCA (Victorian College of the Arts) before leaving to pursue a career in jazz. He has played gigs alongside Deborah Conway and Killing Heidi, and with his band at the Basement in Sydney.
Before becoming a TV host, Axle had acting roles in The Secret Life of Us, Stingers and feature films such as Ned Kelly. He provided updates on all things hip and musical for David and Kim on 9AM every Friday and modeled for events including the Melbourne International Fashion Festival and the Mercedes Fashion Festival and for magazines and labels such as OYSTER and SYKE.
In 2003 Axle was part of Australian Idol and performed live on Network Ten. He was picked as one of the top 40 and proved an audience and judge favourite when, as a special guest at the Grand Final, he performed to 10,000 people on the steps of the Sydney Opera House. Having been spotted on Idol, Axle was hired to host the television show, Video Hits on Network Ten from 2004-2006. During his time as host, he interviewed the biggest names in the business – including Justin Timberlake, Oasis, Destiny’s Child, Green Day, Usher, Avril Lavigne, Rob Thomas and Tony Hawk. Axle traveled the country and overseas hosting events and shooting Video Hits specials. He co-hosted the show with JT and Noel Gallagher in London.
In 2004 Axle Whitehead was the ambassador for the Red Cross Youth Challenge Awards, Camp Quality, World AIDS Day for The Cancer Council and Variety Club. He also helped kids at the Randwick Children’s Hospital celebrate the festive season.
In 2005 and 2006 Axle participated in National Youth Week, Kids Help Line and was ambassador for Shave for a Cure – shaving his hair to raise money for Leukaemia research.
Axle Whitehead launched his recording career in 2007. His debut single I Don’t Do Surprises debuted at No.1 on the Itunes music and video charts and his album, Losing Sleep was released through Roadshow Music debuted in the Top 10 on the Aria chart in August 2008.
In 2009 Axle joined Home and Away as rocker Liam Murphy who creates waves in Summer Bay.
