Jason Stevens

Former Professional Rugby League Player, Writer, Screenwriter and Actor

With a remarkable 14-year career in rugby league representing both State and Country, Jason Stevens is far from your average sports star.

His excellence on the field earned him an Australian Sportsman’s Medal in 2000. Yet, it is his work off the field that truly earned him recognition as “the changing face of Rugby League,” a title given to him by Australia’s leading newspaper.

Born as the second of four children in a European family, Jason grew up in challenging circumstances. Raised by a single mother, these early struggles only strengthened his resilience and shaped him into the man he is today. Despite the odds, Jason’s determination led him to achieve remarkable academic success. He earned a UAI of 96.85 before completing a Bachelor of Commerce Degree at the prestigious University of New South Wales. He also balanced his studies with a professional rugby league career and later worked for Ernst & Young.

Jason’s desire to make a difference extends beyond the sports field. His engaging personality and ability to connect with others caught the attention of Channel Nine, who signed him as “Mr. Entertainment” on The Footy Show, where he continued his streak of celebrity interviews. Jason has also become a highly sought-after MC, known for his energy and charisma at events across Australia.

In addition to his television appearances, Jason has spoken for major brands such as Telstra, Sanity Music, Phillips, and the NRL. He also hosted the powerful documentary The Disposable Ones, which highlights the incredible strength and survival stories of Colombia’s underprivileged children and child soldiers, living amid harsh conditions, abuse, and disease.

Jason’s key message focuses on overcoming adversity. He reflects on his early childhood struggles, raised by a single mother in tough circumstances, and how he used those challenges as fuel to propel himself to the top of his field. His journey speaks to the power of unity in a team, the courage to step out of your comfort zone to pursue your dreams, and the importance of having a vision for your life — a vision that can guide you, even when the odds seem insurmountable. Jason also emphasizes the value of accountability and how receiving criticism — something he experienced firsthand — can be a powerful catalyst for personal growth. He believes that criticism, when embraced with an open mind, helps us evolve and become stronger versions of ourselves.

In 2017, Jason wrote and produced his first feature film, Chasing Comets, which was nominated for an ADG Award. His second feature, Finally Me, was released in 2022, with Jason both writing, directing, and producing. Currently, Jason has several other films and TV series in development, continuing to make an impact both on and off the screen.
